How F&H Got Started
Bob Habermehl didn’t set out to run a heating company. He started his career in a Johnson & Johnson lab, testing drugs for cancer research. The work was steady, but he saw that promotions went to degrees, not ability, and he felt the limits of corporate life early. He went back to Kutztown University to pursue a master’s degree, then realized that path wasn’t for him either.
Around age 25, during the energy crisis of the late 1970s when gas was being rationed, Bob started installing wood stoves for a friend’s business. That work pulled him into central heating systems, and he found he was good at it. By 27, he’d gone independent and never looked back. The name F&H comes from Bob and his original partner, Featheroff — Featheroff and Habermehl. The business has been running since 1980 out of the building that used to be the Topton Bakery.
You Get Bob and Logan
F&H is a family-owned, father-and-son operation — not a big company with layers of staff and a call center. When you call, you reach the people who actually show up and do the work. Bob brings 45 years in the trade. His son Logan brings 25. Between them, that’s seven decades of hands-on experience on heating, cooling, and plumbing jobs across Berks County and the Lehigh Valley.
For the last decade, Bob focused on plumbing and heating for multi-million dollar custom homes, working closely with one main contractor. That work built a reputation for doing things right on projects where the details matter. Today, Bob and Logan run the jobs together out of their Sprinter trucks, bringing in subs only when a job calls for it. Bob is 72 and still climbing under crawl spaces every day.
